Metro Team Prevails in Interclub Golf

BInterclub Ind winners (1)[6200]Y RIC DE VERA – Metro Bears team captained by Nanding dela Cruz won the 2019 Interclub Golf Challenge held on October 7, 2019 at Fox Hills Golf Club. The team scored 410 net total points using the System 36 method of scoring and “four to play two to count” per division towards the team. Metro Bears team was awarded with the monumental trophy plus medal for all its members and the privilege to engrave its name in the huge perpetual trophy.

Individual winners with their scores and club represented were: Felise Leaaetoa (64, Metro Bears) for A, Ed Tenorio (68, Jokers) for B and Sieng Pang (69 Metro Bears) for C. These winners received cash prizes of $100 each for their exceptional performances.

Individual runners up with their scores and club represented were: Chris Blakeley (67, Puro/Pogi) for A, Tim delos Reyes (68, Metro Bears) for B and Rene de Leon (70, Metro Sharks) for C. Likewise, these runner up winners were awarded with $50 cash prizes for their best efforts.

Novelty prize of $20 each were paid to nearest the pin winners on all par 3’s for all the three divisions, namely: Cris Bacucang (Farigolf for A), Leo Santiago (Metro Sharks for B) and Rico Corpus (Metro Bears for C) in Hole 3; Nanding dela Cruz (Metro Bears for A), Aris Ortanez (Puro/Pogi for B) and Laura Marquinez (Puro/Pogi for C) in Hole 5; Toti Alano (Fairgolf for A), Govin Singh (Filoz for B) and NIL for C in Hole 11; Voke Piukala (Filoz for A), Zaldy Kapulong (ParE for B) and Gert Ebing (Jokers for C) in Hole 15; Felise Leaaetoa (Metro Bears for A), Rudi Neri (Metro Sharks for B) and Nep Palomo (Filoz for C) in Hole 17.

There were seven (7) social golf clubs who participated in this 2nd Interclub Golf Challenge. Namely, Fil-oz Social Golf Club, Sydney Metro Sharks (No 1) and Sydney Metro Bears (No 2), Golf ParE Social Golf club, Sydney Jokers Social club, Fairgolf Social Golf club and the combined Puro/Pogi Social golf clubs.

All participants were given snack pack of fruits and bottled water before shot gun start at 7:30am. After the tournament, everyone was treated with sumptuous bbq lunch with potato salads and drinks. While having lunch and while waiting for the results, Kate Andres (legal officer of Kalayaan, Inc.) and Aris Ortanez (Kalayaan Inc director) took the initiative of entertaining the group thru announcements, promotional informations from sponsors, raffles of wines and golf balls.

Kalayaan, Inc President Bob Leones in his message thanked the seven (7) teams and players that participated in the 2nd Interclub Challenge. Special mention of thanks to Crown Institute of Higher Education and Geronimo & Associates for being the sponsors, as well as Wespac Institutional Bank for supplying the goodies bags.  Likewise, he thanked the Kalayaan Inc Organising Committee for yet another successful golf tournament under its banner. Finally, he called all the Club captains, thanked them for their efforts and presented them with gifts/box of golf balls.

The Interclub Golf Challenge is now the second major annual golf tournament of Kalayaan, Inc Organizing Committee. The first was the PAL Kalayaan Cup golf tournament held every long weekend in June in conjunction with the commemoration of the proclamation of Philippine Independence.

Part of the proceeds will be donated to Missionaries of Charity in Tondo, Manila, Philippines.
