Cholo Diamonon wins 5th RDV Golf Cup last December

BY RIC DE VERA – Victor “Cholo” Diamonon from Bardwell Valley won the 5th Ric De Vera (RDV)Charity Golf Cup held at Stonecutters Ridge Golf Club on December 28, 2022.

Mr Diamonon scored 41 points using his AGU handicap of 24 under the stableford system of scoring. He was awarded with a trophy plus $150 cash prize and the privilege to engrave his name in the monumental perpetual trophy. “It was just my lucky day and very happy for it” said an ecstatic Cholo with broad smile.

Division winners with their stableford scores and handicaps used were: Janel Diaz (38/16) for Division A, Rommel Gaerlan (40/21) for Division B and Serge Jumonong (40/35) for Division C. These division winners were awarded with $100 cash prizes each for their fantastic efforts.

Division runners up with their stableford scores and handicaps used were: Jory Diaz (34/15) for Division A, Joe Cura (36/25) for Division B and Rene de Leon (37/32) for Division C. These division runners up were awarded with $50 cash prizes each for their best efforts.

Novelty hole winners were paid $5 each on all holes for all divisions, either longest drive, best drive & pitch and nearest the pin, namely: Bernie Balagtas (holes 2, 7, 8 & 12), Kaybill Alvarado (holes 1, 4, 11 & 17), Danny Martinez (hole 3), Jun Ramos (hole 5), Boy Berroya (hole 6), Sam Ramos (hole 9), Jory Diaz (holes 10 & 15), Janel Diaz (hole 13) and Gaddee Soriano (hole 16) for Division A; John Sabanal (holes 1, 14 & 15), Rommel Gaerlan (holes 5, 8 &18), Joe Rancudo (holes 6 & 9), Benjie Layug (hole 10), Glenn Tahimik (hole 12), Cholo Diamonon (hole 16), and Rene Maisog (hole 17) for Division B; Gerald Santiago (hole 1), Oscar Canda (hole 5), Nap Estrada (hole 6), Ever Bernaldez (hole 10), Sumendra Kumar (hole 12). Philip Sicat (hole 15) and Anton Andres (hole 16) for Division C.

The tournament is named after this writer as a birthday thanksgiving. Some 60 participants supported the event . Yours truly appreciates their continued support and wished them a merry Christmas.

On another matter, please note the participation and success of Fil-oz golfers in the FilAm Invitational in Baguio City wherein one team (MacLinks 2) was a runner up winner deserve to be congratulated.

As a year-ender, we should thanked the tremendous efforts of Vangie Leones assisted by his loving husband Bobby, that eventually led to the success of RDV’s cup which is now on its 5th year.

Kudos also to Alex del Prado Jr for his donation of wines for raffles and being the official photographer.

The RDV Charity Golf cup will now be the annual golf tournament to celebrate the birthday of this writer. The proceeds of this year’s tournament including the amount donated by Jess Arranz of $100, ($500) will be donated to the Missionaries of Charity in Tondo, Manila when we go there in February/March 2023.
