Oscar Clemente from Woodcroft narrowly won the Sydney Metro Social Golf Club (Sydney Metro) 2016 annual championship trophy. He outlasted the 24 finalists during the four Saturday’s gruelling championship rounds by scoring net total of 142 using his handicap of 8.5.
He was awarded with monumental trophy (Zignal Travels Cup), return airfare to Manila courtesy of Zignal Travels, a dozen of golf balls and the privilege to engrave his name on the Sydney Metro Perpetual trophy.
First runner up was Romy Diswe who received $250 cash, Bert Castro was 2nd with $200 cash, Henry Singian was 3rd with $150 cash, Ric de Vera was 4th with $100 cash and Daven Naidu was 5th with $50 cash. All the runner up winners were also awarded a dozen of Titleist golf balls. The cash prizes was held in conjunction with the first anniversary celebration attended by no less than seventy (70) members and guests. Everyone enjoyed the sumptuous food, overflowing wines, parlour games and liwere generously donated by Daven Naidu.
Sydney Metro was formed on 1 August 2015 and celebrated its first anniversary on 6 August 2016 at Glendenning Neighbourhood Centre.

The Sydney Metro organising team of Allan Sianghio. Alyn Bollas, Ava Cubelo, Bobby Leones, Ellen Sioco, Ezy Sioco, Kate Andres, Lito Bollas, Rene de Leon, Romy Diswe, Vangie Leones and Zaldy Kapulong did a fantastic job in preparing the celebration party, where the Filipino Bayanihan spirit was displayed by the golfers who filled the buffet table with their contributions of their favourite dishes.
Daven Naidu, together with club treasurer Ellen Sioco, surprised the hard working couple Bobby & Vangie Leones with a gift of a dinner voucher at The Altitude Restaurant in Shangri La Hotel. The gift was a token of appreciation by the Sydney Metro golfers for the couple’s hard work in ensuring the weekly games are run smoothly and that results are published on time.
Sydney Metro members play at Stonecutters Ridge Golf Club and tee-times are normally between 1:00 to 2:y afternoons. With an A Grade golf course and being a well-run club, there’s no doubt that the Sydney Metro will be celebrating more anniversaries in the future.
