“Meriendahan” for women empowerment

The little known association Australia Filipino Women held a symposium among Filipino Australian women community leaders last Saturday afternoon 18 June 2022 at the Leo Kelly Arts Centre in Blacktown, NSW.

No less than Philippine Ambassador to Australia Ms Hellen de la Vega who travelled from the Philippine Embassy in Canberra, ACT was the guest speaker.

Blacktown City Mayor Hon. Tony Bleasdale and Philippine Overseas Commission awardee Dr. Cora Francisco, a Blacktown general practitioner, delivered messages for the new orgsanisation.

Known Filipino women community leaders joined the symposium, namely: AFWomen Secretary and Psychologist Fedora Limjap, did the opening remarks; Solicitor and AFWomen President and former Blacktown Councilor Linda Santos did the welcoming; Blacktown businesswoman and AFWomen Secretary Tess Sayas introduced the guest speaker, and AFWomen Vice President Marilyn Mendez, did the closing remarks.

Ambassador Hellen dela Vega officiated the oathtaking of the officers of the new women’s organisation.
