Victorian golfers win Interstate tournament

The State of Victoria jointly captained by Kelly Maglalang and Willy de Joya won the 28th FilAussie Interstate Friendship Golf Cup held over two days during Easter weekend on April 16 & 17, 2022 at North Adelaide Golf Club by garnering total team stableford points of 355, under the ‘seven to play five to count’ system of scoring. Victoria was awarded with monumental trophy donated by Luc de Guia plus $150 cash prize. “Our hard work and lots of practice paid off. Thanks to all our team members for making us happy” said an ecstatic Willy.

Individual over-all champion was won by Gaddee Soriano from Sydney with his total two-day stableford score of 80 points. He was awarded with monumental trophy plus $150 cash prize for his unbeatable efforts.

Day one division winners were Edwin Quiaonza (Vic) for A with score of 39 points and Benjie Lualhati (NSW) for B with score of 41 points. Both division winners were awarded with $100 cash prize each.

Day two division winners were Noel Martir (Vic) for A with score of 40 points CB and Nur Hugo (Vic) for B with score of 37 points winning by count back. These division winners were awarded with cash prize of $100 each.

Novelty hole winners on day one for Nearest the pins on all par three holes at $20 each were Noel Vega (Vic), Romy Quindoza (QLD), Gaddee Soriano (NSW) and Edwin Quiaonza of Victoria.

Novelty hole winners on day two for nearest the pins on all par three holes at $20 each were: Brendan Burnell (ACT), Tony Magnaye (Vic), Gaddee Soriano (NSW) and Pino Satel from Cairns, Queensland.

This year’s 28th series was successfully hosted by the Adelaide Filipino Golfers jointly headed by Luc de Guia and Edwin Galmesa. Participants coming from other states were twenty (20) from Victoria, fifteen (15) from New South Wales, three (3) from ACT and two (2) from Cairns in Queensland. Due to current Covid-19 pandemic, apologies were received from Northern Territory (Oscar Parian) and Queensland (Nestor Jongko).

Saturday nights welcome dinner and entertainment was held at Albion Hotel function centre hosted by Imelda Galmesa and her friends. Everyone enjoyed the sumptuous dinner and the karaoke singing with dancing afterwards.

During the awards presentation and BBQ lunch at the North Adelaide Golf Club, this writer as coordinator of the event welcome everyone for joining the 28th FilAussie Interstate Friendship golf cup. He likewise thanked the host club (Adelaide Filipino golfers), congratulated the winners and led the thanksgiving prayers. It was announced that next year, the 29th series of this annual interstate golf tournament tournament would be held in the Philippines after the PAL Interclub or dates to be decided later..
