Rommy Gaerlan wins 2021 RDV Golf Cup

BY RIC DE VERA – Rommel Gaerlan from Rooty Hill and member of various Filipino Social golf clubs won the 4th RDV Charity Golf held at Fox Hills Golf Club on December 19, 2021. He scored 40 points using his AGU handicap of 20 under the stableford system of scoring and winning via count back.

Rommel won a trophy plus $150 cash prize and the privilege to engrave his name in the perpetual trophy. “Practice contributed a lot in my good score” said an ecstatic Rommel who paid back $50 from his winning to form part of the charity proceeds.

Division winners with their stableford scores and handicaps used were: Rene del Rosario (40/13 CB) for Division A and Rene Maisog (37/30) for Division B. These division winners were awarded with $100 cash prizes each for their fantastic efforts.

Division runners up with their stableford scores and handicaps used were: Daven Naidu (38/18) for Division A and Philip Ranoso (36/26) for Division B. These division runners up were awarded with $50 cash prizes each for their best efforts.

Novelty hole winners were paid $20 each on all par 3 holes for both divisions, namely Lorenzo Aquino (A) and Rudy Neri (B) for hole 3; Jannel Diaz (A) and Boy Alano (B) for hole 11; Jannel Diaz (A) and Benjie Layug (B) on hole 15 and Dave Naidu (A) and Rene Maisog (B) on hole no 17. No winner on hole no 5 and the allocated amount was included in the proceeds for charity.

Before the presentation of awards, this writer whose birthday this tournament was held, thanked all the 50 participants for their continued support and wished them a Merry Christmas.

Proceeds would be donated to the Missionaries of Charity in Tondo, Manila like in the first and second years. Last year, $1300 was donated to typhoon victims in the Philippines via Philippine Australian Disaster Relief (PADER) which is coordinated by  the Philippine Community Council of NSW.

Thanks to sponsors headed by Albert Dionisio ($300), Jess Arranz ($100), Ed Montero (trophy), Alex del Prado (bananas & water), and volunteers Vangie Leones (scores summary/flights) and Bobby Leones for the markers, flights calling and assisting in the awards presentation. The RDV Charity Golf Cup will now be the annual golf tournament to celebrate the birthday of this writer. Part of this year’s proceeds ($500) has been donated to PADER of the Philippine Community Council of NSW, care of Director Vangie Leones. The balance ($500) will be allocated to the Missionaries of Charity in Tondo, Manila.
