Community bodies respond to Typhoon Maring victims

Help is underway for the initial shipment of thirteen big boxes of relief goods for the survivors of typhoon Maring in Northern Luzon. A collaborative initiative of six Filipino and multicultural community organisations in Sydney Australia, this appeal for assistance is still ongoing.

As an aftermath of the fierce onslaught of Typhoon Maring that caused devastating damages to infrastructure, houses, crops and means of livelihood in Northern Luzon, in response, Filipino-Australian and multicultural community leader, Dr Cen Amores immediately initiated a quick,  responsive and coordinated appeal for assistance.

Considering that the delivery of the Empowering Communities Partnership Project of the Auburn Youth Centre and Auburn Small Community Organisation Network (ASCON) Inc is still ongoing, Dr Cen, ASCON President requested Dr Edgar Escultura, APCO President to coordinate the collaborative Typhoon Maring appeal, which he readily accepted. BTW, the above mentioned partnership project of ASCON and AYC is aimed to assist with emergency food and essential items, create a positive social media narrative about community, covid-19 safety and wellbeing and link people with other support. The NSW Government provided $30,000 funding grant for this joint project.

Donations to the Philippines are still being accepted. To facilitate the collection of relief goods donations, the two presidents agreed to use their respective residences as drop off points. Please see the attached appeal flyer for details. Among the Filipino-Australian and multicultural community organisations that collaborated  in this Humanitarian initiative are: Multicultural Assistance Task Force (MATF), Alliance of Philippine Community Organisations Incorporated(APCO), Auburn Small Community Organisation Network (ASCON) Inc , Filipino Lesbian and Gay Community (FLAGCOM), Kapit-bahayan Cooperative Ltd (KCL) and Filipino Women Support Group of Macarthur.
