The announcement of the impending visit to Sydney of well known Philippine Basketball stalwarts of yersteryears now tagged by basketball impressario Marco Selorio as “Legends” appearing in a couple events, including perhaps an exhibition basketball match brigs to memory basketball tournaments in the Philippine community.
The games were held usually on weekends at Mt Druitt’s Kevin Betts Basketball stadium. Thanks to the ingenuity of basketball organisers, they were able to stage games worthy of a spectacle for basketball-loving community.
Each player come and individually pay a couple of dollar or so to patient organisers who shoulder expenses: fee for the gym, remuneration for official basketball referees. and other incidental expenses. Whoever remember of patient and enterprising brother “Etoy” who administered the long-running Western Sydney Christian Basketball Tournament, to the excitement of growing teenagers and men seasoned in the arts of the mahogany court.
Families come to see fathers, sons and nephews play the sports Filipinos love so much.
There were even the signature Filipino satay barbecues, fishball and pancit avaialble on some weekends to satisfy those hungry stomachs of basketball athletes.
