BY ELENA LIMUN – Angeles Belleza has become the 18th president of the Sydney Australian Filipino Seniors, Inc. (SAFSI) after being elected unopposed as the new leader.
Belleza who was the outgoing vice-president was nominated and subsequently elected during the Association’s General Meeting held on 12 February 2017.
Ms Belleza will start her top job after the induction of officers on 19 February 2017. She says that her main focus will be to create an environment of peace, unity and love within the organisation and also to foster good relationship with other organisations. She also added that she will organise the association’s own choral group and more importantly an Occupational Health and Safety measure in line with SAFSI’s objectives and interest.
She takes over from her predecessor Prima Cruz West who decided not to run for re-election due to health reason. Her tenure ends in March after being in the top job for a year.
During her term, Prima West stood firm and unaffected and did her best to give the association a facelift and was successful in saving the association from deregistration.
Ms Belleza says that her top priority when she is sworn in is to tackle the latest major changes in the SAFSI constitution where she worked closely with Prima West, her predecessor to study and write the major changes in the constitution upon the professional advice of a lawyer from the Department of Fair Trading.
Prima West vows to give her full support for Angeles Belleza as she sees in her the potential of a good leader who would continue the hard work and the initiatives they both started together in the past year – By Elena Limun
