BY RIC DE VERA – Carlos Gabila from Greenwich and DivoTees member for the past eight years won the 2015 Susan’s Cup golf tournament held at Woodville Golf Course on July 4, 2015. His score of gross 78 and net 70 under the System 36 method of scoring was the best among the rest of the 64 golfers who played.
He was awarded with a trophy plus $400 and the right to engrave his name in the monumental perpetual trophy for his exceptional efforts. “I never thought this day would come – winning as overall champion. It’s always been my dream to win this event and finally done it” said an ecstatic Carlos. “I am extremely happy with my game today” he finally said.
Division winners with their gross/net scores were: Karl Fifita (84/72 cb) for A; Arnie Santos (92/71) for B and Ric de Vera (98/71) for C. These division winners received $150 cash each for their best efforts.
Division first runners up with their gross/net scores were: Eddie Tenorio (85/72 cb) for A; Elmer Arreza (92/72 cb) for B and Richard Dadat (99/72) for C. Again, these division first runners up received $75 cash each.
Division second runners up with their gross/net scores were: Bernie Balagtas (83/72 cb) for A; Russel Mosman (95/72 cb) for B and Ricky Mantaring (104/75 cb) for C. Similarly, these division second runners up received $50 each.
Nearest the pins on all par three holes were awarded $25 each as follows: Jorge Cabarrus (hole 2); Carlos Toda (hole 5); Angelo Arreza (hole 7); Bernie Balagtas (hole 11) and Faleonu Faimuono for hole 15.
Before the presentation, the Scorer & Handicapper Rick Power announced that the division winners were classified according to resulting handicaps, namely, between 0-18 for A, 19-24 for B and 25 & over for C, in order to have an even distribution. On his part, DivoTees President Edwa Garcia thanked everyone for their attendance and support for the Susan’s Cup, which is now on its 21st golfing year. Mike Garcia (the husband of the late Susan del Rosario Garcia in whose memory this tournament was held) thanked the perfect weather and praised the sumptuous lunch served by the new Turkey caterer at Rosnay Golf Club to the delight of all the golfers.
Meanwhile, the Golf ParE Social Golf Club’s 17th anniversary tournament held on June 27, 2015 at Dunheved Golf Club was won by Ed Montero with his unbeatable score of 42 points under the stableford method of scoring. Runners up with the same scores of 36 points broken only by count back were Noel Manansala (first), Richard Espiritu (second) and Zaldy Kapulong (third). The Championship trophy was donated and presented by Nirvan Naidu.
