2014 Victorian International Education Awards

· Second annual Victorian International Education Awards
· Supporting Victoria’s largest export industry
· Napthine Government recognising leaders in Victoria’s
international education sector

Victorian education providers from universities, vocational and
educational training and English language training institutions, as well
as students from more than ten countries have been announced today as
finalists for the prestigious Victorian International Education Awards
2014, by the Minister for Employment and Trade Louise Asher.

Now in its second year, the annual Awards recognise and celebrate leaders
in Victoria’s international education sector and the outstanding
achievements of both institutions and international students benefiting
from Victoria’s world-class education services.

The Awards acknowledge 17 education provider finalists, including
businesses and not-for-profits, across eight categories, which have
delivered outstanding services and programs for international students.

Ms Asher said the 2014 finalists exhibit leading practice in delivering
high quality education to diverse cultural groups, global research
engagement, international student support, careers and employability
services and global student mobility.

Students from countries including China, India, Brazil and Indonesia are
nominated for ‘International Student of the Year’ awards in the four
categories of Research, Higher Education, Vocational Education and
Training and English Language Training.

“Victoria is a leader in high-quality international education, research
and training that is helping create the next generation of global
citizens,” Ms Asher said.

“Our state attracts around 140,000 international student enrolments each
year, and the Awards showcase the unique, valuable and diverse
contribution made by international education to the Victorian community.”

International education is now Victoria’s single largest export industry,
contributing almost $4.5 billion to the state’s economy and providing
around 30,000 jobs in 2013.

Winners of the individual student awards will receive scholarships of up
to $10,000 for study related expenses at a Victorian educational
institution.

An additional $10,000 will be awarded to the winner of the Premier’s Award
for International Student of the Year.

Winners will be announced at the Awards Ceremony on Tuesday 9 September.
