Benefit Concert for Typhoon Haiyan in Bundaberg, Queensland

012 (640x416) 041 (320x221) 068 (640x426) (2)Reported by Lutgarda Lee Pendleton at Bundaberg. Feb. 16 – A benefit concert to help victims of the recent Super Typhoon  Haiyan in Eastern Visayas in the Philippines attracted some 400 people in the Bundaberg and Wide Bay communities of Queensland.
Supported no less by current Bundaberg Mayor Mal Forman and former Bundaberg Mayor Kay McDuff, the benefit concert was organised by the area’s International Women’s Society (IWS) a social group of women from different ethnicities who have made Bundaberg their hometown.
Mayor Forman and former Mayor McDuff who has been a long time supporter of IWS  since it started in 1996,
 themselves opened the proceedings. Well known Scottish singer Mr Alex Peden was the master of ceremonies.
The concert featured different ethnic motif multicultural presentations including national folk dances in resplendent costumes and individual performances from Bundaberg known singers and dancers.
 IWS members presented a Philippine tribal dance number, while IWS vice-president Mavis Scherer and Thelma Rickets provided a comedy skit. 
 Not to be ignored was the comedy musical routine Voce de Italia which was adapted from  a scene in the movie “Sister Act” provided more entertainment.
Mayor Furman and IWS founding president Norma Luz Jensen oversaw the obligatory raffle draw.
