The Sydney based Bicol Inc held their quarterly meeting and members’ traditional birthday celebration in style, re-enacting the Filpino dance soiree of yeseryears called Pantomina to the delight of many. The event was held at club president Neria Soliman’s residence in Hassal Grove, NSW last Sunday 24 August.
In Bicol, Philippines Pantomina is the highlight of Sorsogon province’s yearly October festival Kanggayahan wherein elderly couples in colourfull costume perform in public meeting the dance of the doves or Pantomina, mimicking the courtship and lovemaking of the doves.
Bicol Inc president Mrs Neria Soliman who is also founding member of the social dance club Hot Mamas said the colourful meeting was witnessed by some of Sydney’s Filipino community press.
The event was held at Mrs Soliman’s Hassal Grove residence where Mrs Soliman has a dance studio which served perfectly to the Filipino dance soiree.
Mr Ray Moncay, a dance aficionado, acted as disc jockey, playing the Pantmina music CD as well as supplemental Latin dance numbers to the delight of many.
Those who attended the meeting were BICOL Inc immediate past prident Mr Ross Iglesia, Bicol Inc, Bicol Inc secretary Penny Pefecto and cub treasurer M Zena Samar.
Others who attended were Ofelia Kasilag,Ambee Mendiola, Nilda carpo, Flor Roxas Emil Soliman Norm Evans. David Isaac, Elie Noakes.
