Pacquiao considering a run for presidency

The Filipino boxing champ Manny Pacquiao is embracing considerations of running for presidency after he retires from boxing.

The 34-year old boxing icon and currently the district representative of Sarangani province in Mindanao, was quoted in an interview with the Agence France-Presse, saying, “When I started boxing, of course I was planning, you know, and thinking about getting to become a champion. So when I enter politics it’s the same thing. But, you know, it’s far away, It is God’s will.”

However, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) cleared that he would not qualify to run in the next presidential elections in 2016.

The age requirement to be eligible to run for president according to the constitution is 40 years old, and Pacquiao would only be 37 years old in 2016, three years short.

Meanwhile, amidst the buzz of Pacquiao’s presidential ambition, he already started to promote his upcoming fight with US fighter Brandon Rios at the Venetian resort-hotel in Macau on November 24.

His record stands at 54 wins, five losses, including a devastating knockout to Juan Manuel Marquez and two draws, he is “100 percent” positive he would beat Rios, giving him one more chance to reclaim his credibility and possibly having another shot at a world title.
