BAGUIO CITY, Philippines – The Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) Youth Volunteer Programme @ AsiaEngage is inviting Filipino youth volunteers become ASEAN Youth Heritage Leaders, through the “Development of ASEAN Youth Heritage Leaders through Volunteerism and Community Engagement” to be held in Malaysia on August 11 to September 15, 2014.
AYVP@AsiaEngage is looking for 50 ASEAN youth who are fluent in English and have good leadership experiences to be qualified for this fully funded volunteer programme.
ASEAN youth is defined as young people aged 18-30 years old and citizens of the ASEAN member states namely Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand, Singapore, and Vietnam.
According to Prof. Dato’ Dr. Saran Kaur Gil, Executive Director of AsiaEngage, the objective of the programme is to promote awareness among youth of the importance of the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community. It intends to create an ASEAN identity and a better understanding of the value of interdependence of culture across ASEAN.
It is also an initiative to develop ASEAN youth heritage leaders who will replicate the culture heritage conservation programs with schools, universities and communities in their respective countries. Part of it is also to develop knowledge about the rich history of cultural sites across ASEAN.
The programme also intends to create new synergy among educators, heritage experts, environmental, specialist government and other stakeholders in the promotion of ASEAN cultural Heritage conservation.
Major activities in the programme include cultural and historical explorations of the Capital City of Kuala Lumpur, and Melaka, one of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization ( UNESCO) World Heritage Sites in Malaysia.
This year’s theme is “Protecting ASEAN Heritage.”
