In response to the urgent needs of the survivors of super typhoon Rolly, the Multicultural Assistance
Task Force (MATF) of Western Sydney in partnership with almost twenty not-for-profit Filipino-
Australian and multicultural community organisations, small businesses, churches and concerned
individuals, launched its Humanitarian Support to Survivors of Super Typhoon Rolly on the 11th of
November 2020.
This coincided with the sending of the first wave of relief goods to their local
partner in the Philippines, the Word of Hope Church of Metro Manila.
According to Dr Cen Amores, Chairperson of MATF and Project Coordinator, it is extremely
important that transparency, efficiency and timeliness should be observed in the distribution of
relief goods. She said, “Evidences of relief goods distributions (photos or video), a report on the
number of families in each barangay, towns and cities served, and feedbacks from recipients will be
required from our Philippine partners, for the information of all our donors.
” She added, “Cash donations may be used to purchase additional goods that are responsive to the actual needs of the intended beneficiaries.”
The second wave of relief goods planned for next month will be sent to the Association of Major
Religious Superiors in the Philippines through the Coordinator of Typhoon Rolly Assistance Team, Fr
Angel Cortez, OFM.
Fresh from a spot visit of Catanduanes and the Bicol region, his team conducted
their “AMRSP Relief Mission and Assessment” and extended help for food and temporary shelter.
Specifically, Fr Angel advised MATF to send blankets, canned goods and grooming products.
