The University of the Philippines Alumni Association of Australia – New South Wales Chapter, as part of its 40th anniversary, is holding a fundraising project for the benefit of its Scholarship Grant.
Dubbed Step UP for 40, the project is targeting $3,000 to assist academically deserving UP students who are in the midstream of their academic program but cannot complete their academic requirements because of the adverse impacts of financial hardships of their family, or unexpected calamities such as natural disasters and the COVID19 pandemic.
UPAAA-NSW team members are challenged do their preferred exercise activity in sets of 40 minutes per session on or before the 17th of October 2020, which is when a virtual anniversary party will be held. They will do this to raise funds to cover the scholars’ monthly allowance, books and transportation expenses. Tuition is covered by the Philippine government’s free tuition program.
Founded in March 1980, UPAAA-NSW is one of the early Filipino organisations established in New South Wales and also one of the oldest UP alumni chapters recognised outside the Philippines. Since 2008, its Scholarship Grant has assisted 10 scholars from various UP campuses toward their graduation.
Both its two most recent scholars from UP Diliman, Mikaela Bonador and Joy Loresco, graduated with honors in B.S. Elementary Education. The donations from friends, benefactors, and members of the Association through the years have been helpful.
UPAAA-NSW hopes that you can support this worthwhile project so it can continue to assist new and more scholars. Academically deserving UP scholars are counting on your support to continue and complete their course. You can send your donations via https://www.gofundme.com/f/StepUPfor40.
