PHILIPPINES INDEPENDENCE DAY
I am delighted to send my best wishes to everyone celebrating Philippines Independence Day in NSW on 12 June.
This commemorates the Filipino people’s struggle for independence in 1898 that ended Spanish rule through the Treaty of Paris and led to the formation of the modern Republic of the Philippines.
In the years since, the Filipino community in Australia has been passionate about maintaining its unique cultural identity, languages and traditions.
The NSW Government recognises the important contributions made across many sectors by members of the Filipino community.
As Minister for Multiculturalism, my goal is to build and maintain a cohesive and harmonious society, and I thank the Filipino community for its commitment to peace, democracy and social harmony.
