Three Philippine-Australian community leaders were elected to the peak body Ethnic Community Council of NSW during its AGM and Elections last Sunday 18 October at its general headquarters in Waterloo.
Dr Cen Amores of Alliance of Philippine Community Organisations (APCO) and Mrs Josie Musa of Adhika advocacy organisation were elected into the 12 Member Board of Management while current APCO president Ruben Amores was among those elected to the Members Forum with Dr Cen Amores and Josie Musa. Mr. Amores is concurrently chairperson of Auburn Small Community Network.
Peter Doukas was re-elected unopposed for his second term as Chair with Jack Passaris as the Deputy Chair.
The key roles of the ECC NSW Board of Management are to: develop and approve policies and procedures, develop and implement the ECC’s strategic plan and manage financial, staffing, and legal responsibilities.
The Member’s Forum consists of elected officials who, in addition to their governance responsibilities, may act on behalf of the Management as necessary, act on issues referred from the Board of Management and monitor action taken on decisions made by the Board of Management
Among the government officials who attended this year’s AGM were Parliamentary Secretary for Communities Dr Geoff Lee MP, who represented Premier Mike Baird; The Hon. Sophie Cotsis, Shadow Minister for Multiculturalism who represented Leader of the Opposition Luke Foley MP and Dr Mehree Faruqi, a member of the Greens NSW Upper House and former Premier Barry O’Farrell.
