Kapwa (Filipino for ‘fellow’)is a newly established program under the Institute of Global Peace and Sustainable Governance (or IGPSG). It is spearheaded by Charlene Chujing Cai, David Joshua Delos Reyes, and myself. As young professionals and international students, we are determined to strengthen the peer-to-peer support opportunities here in Sydney, Australia. In fact, the Kapwa program takes inspiration from the shared stories and experiences of current and former international students, including ourselves and our peers.
Kapwa aims to empower and support international students and young professionals by hosting events and initiatives that facilitate roundtable discussions, encourage cultural exchange, provide networking opportunities, and promote student wellbeing and support. It strives to create a safe environment and foster friendships between participants. Thus, our events follow a more casual and personal approach.
Kapwa’s first event will be a get-together coupled with a roundtable discussion. Our objective is to get all participants acquainted with the program and one another. In this regard, we are inviting interested individuals to join us. More information will be released in the coming weeks.
