BY RIC DE VERA – Ed Montero from St Mary’s and member of several Filipino social golf clubs won the 23rd Knights Cup Golf tournament held on April 5, 2021 at Fox Hills Golf Club.
He scored unbeatable 47 points using his social handicap of 33 under the stableford system of scoring. He was awarded with monumental trophy, $250 cash prize and the privilege to engrave his name in the huge perpetual trophy.
“Am so happy and so lucky that even my drive went to the wrong fairway, I was able to recover easily. I think that’s golf” said an ecstatic Ed.
Division winners with their scores and handicaps used were: Albert MG Garcia (37/16 CB) for Division A, Zaldy Kapulong (42/22) for Division B and Ernie Mercado (42/28) for Division C. These division winners were awarded with trophies and $150 cash prize each for their fantastic efforts.
Division runners up with their scores and handicaps used were: Bernard Bravo (37/17 CB) for Division A, Jerry Valmeo (42/25) for Division B and Nap Estrada (37/31) for Division C. These division runners up were awarded with trophies and $100 cash prize each for their best efforts.
Lady winner was Narelle Hillyer who scored 35 points using her AGU handicap of 11 and was awarded with trophy plus $100 cash prize.
Novelty prizes on all holes by divisions were awarded with $20 each as follows: Hole #2 Drive & pitch for Div A Edd Tenorio; Hole #3 Nearest the Pin open Carl Bucoy; Hole #4 Drive & pitch for Div B Rommel Gaerlan; Hole #5 Nearest the Pin Div B Ferdi Francisco; Hole #10 Longest Drive Div A Bernard Bravo, Div B Jack Pornladawong, Div C Anton Andres; Hole #11 Nearest the Pin Div A Renato Manongdo; Hole #15 Nearest the Pin Lady Narelle Hillyer; Hole #16 Drive & Pitch Div A Lorenzo Aquino; Hole #17 Nearest the Pin Div B Romeo Morales and Hole #18 Longest Drive Div A Maynard Tabungar, Div B Cris Abalos & Div C Nap Estrada.
Congratulations to Knights of Rizal Sydney Chapter for successfully holding the 23rd Knights cup golf tournament which was not held last year due to Covid-19 pandemic.

Co-chairpersons of the tournament s to KOR Sir Philip Ranoso and KOR Sir Ralph Posadas mustered almost 100 golfers to play in the tournament.
Other KOR Knights who supported included KOR ANZO Regional commander Cesar Bartolome, Area commander Danny Peralta, and Chapter commander Francis delos Santos. Avid golfer Alex del Prado along with Ran dela Pena were the photographers.
Some 52 bottles of wines were raffled before the announcement of golf results.
KOR Chapter commander Francis delos Santos thanked the volunteers and event committee members while KOR official Philip Ranoso acknowledged the presence and support of all the different Filipino social golf clubs including the Sydney Thai golf association and its representative Mr. Tombo Kaewsatuan. He finally thanked all sponsors and donors , particularly Feller Homes, Megaward, Biala Tax and others.
A sumptuous buffet lunch was served at the clubhouse.
Proceeds of this fund raising go to charitable projects of the Knights of Rizal Sydney chapter in Australia as well as in the Philippines.
