Wanted: Fil-Aussies for Philippine Cricket Team

The Manila-based Philippine Cricket Association (PCA) is looking for talented  Filipino Australians to  join the Philippine National Cricket (PNC) team for the coming ICC T20 International Cup in Papua Nnew Guinea in March 2019.

The sports of cricket is the second Australian sports ( after the rugby league) that is making breakthrough in the Philippines after sustained sports promotion efforts in the Philippines by Australian sports volunteers.

The Philippines hurdled the qualifying round held in Manila against Japan, Indonesia and South Korea. It was the first time the country hosted a major international the country hosted a major international cricket competition.

It was also the first time that the Philippine National Cricket team formerly mentored by a Pakistani captain was captained by someone of Filipino heritage.

The captain of the winning team of the qualifying round is Jonathan Hill whose father is an Australian who was formerly a missionary in the Philippines and his mother, a Filipina from Davao. Jonathan Hill is a nephew of Philippine Community Council vice-president Mr Alric Bulsico.

The Hill family now lives in Chatswood.

Jonathan Hill is looking forward for support of the Filipino-Australian community including the participation of sportsmen in the Philippine National Cricket team.
