Husband and wife community leaders and housing cooperative experts Mr Ruben Amores and Dr Cen Amores spoke before a seminar on a proposed Multicultural Elderly Cooperativewhich was held at Berala Community Centre in Berala, NSW last Saturday 27 November 2017.
The gathering was part of a Cumberland Local Government Area information seminar. The project was organised by the Auburn Small Community Network, Inc (ASCON) and the Alliance of Philippine Community Organisations (APCO).
Mr Ruben Amores was previously a president of the Kapitbahayan Cooperative Ltd (KCL), while Dr Cen Amores was the founder of the sponsoring community organisation ASCON.
The seminar was open to all interested seniors aged 55 years and over, Australians from all nationalities and culture who wish to be housed in a new, safe, stable, comfortable and affordable housing.
The speakers explained the concept of housing cooperative as a government projectfor low and medium income Australian residents who are carefully-chosen, organised and trained to be able to manage, maintain and make important decisions democratically for the cooperative.
Mr Amores who is previous president of the Kapitbahayan Cooperative Ltd, cited the Kapitbahayan as a good example of a workable and successful housing cooperative. Kapitbahayan is located in the South Granville and Guildford areas.
Those who participated in the seminar received a housing application form for consideration. Some 25 senior citizens registered for the seminar.
