NUEVA VIZCAYA, Philippines – Aritao town mayor Lucita Tan said they have started to implement their plastic ban ordinance in support of the Solid Waste Management Program SWMP).
She said that the ordinance also strongly supports climate change adaptation and mitigation by tapping and encouraging local business establishments in the town to use environment-friendly materials instead.
“All business establishment owners are prohibited to use plastic bags and other non-biodegradable containers and materials,” Tan said.
According to the mayor, consumers are also encouraged to reduce their own reusable bags or any other similar containers from home when buying goods and other commodities.
“Establishments are given ample time to deplete their inventories of plastic bags and replace these with environment-friendly materials,” Tan said.
