ANTIQUE, Philippines – The community participation is vital to enhance food security said the National Food Authority (NFA) provincial official as the ‘food guardian’ campaign was launched as highlight of the agency’s 43rd Anniversary.
Provincial Manager Marianito Bejemino led the launching of the ‘I Am A Food Guardian’ advocacy campaign in a ceremony aimed to give emphasis on the enhancement of national food security, promotion of of food safety and quality consciousness and fair trade practices in the grains market.
The activity with the theme ‘Seguridad sa Pagkain, Tungkulin Nation’ was participated in by students, the community and the officers and members of the Grains Retailers Confederation.
“We would like to encourage individuals from different sectors to be a food guardian most specially the youth, students and stakeholders who are passionate about social media, food security and safety and be part of NFA’s campaign,” Bejemino said.
Other activities of the programmed for the NFA anniversary include Open Warehouse and Photo Exhibit, Lakbay Aral: Kilalanin ang NFA; Feeding program for San Fernando Day Care Pupils; Lighting of NFA signage; I am A food guardian advocacy campaign at San Jose Trade Town and at the Advance Central College.
As food guardian, the volunteers pledged not to waste rice; help in making sure that rice is available, accessible, affordable and visible in public markets; and follow the correct food handling procedures to make sure that rice is safe for consumers.
The guardians also have their names registered ans photos taken on the Pledge Wall.
The public is also urged to report to NFA Bantay Bigas Hotline number 0906-4363133 or official NFA social media accounts and to authorities the areas where NFA rice is not being sold accordingly.
