QUEZON CITY, Philippines – The Philippine National Police will be observing and supporting the celebration of Philippine Veterans Week and the 73rd Araw ng Kagitingan on April 5-11, 2015, in recognition of the valuable sacrifice of Filipino War veterans who had fought and died for the freedom and independence of our country.
The Officer in Charge of PNP, Police Deputy Director Leonardo A Espina encourages all PNP Personnel to join the celebrations in support and in remembering our heroes during the World War II and Filipino war veterans.
A series of commemorative events will thus be held to immortalize the valor of our veterans and manifest the nations’ collective gratitude and appreciation for their selfless sacrifices for the country.
LTGEN Ernesto G Carolina (Ret), head of the Multi-Agency Task Force (MATF) announced that various programs are lined-up to highlight the week long activities in observance of the Araw ng Kagitingan and Philippine Veterans Week with this year’s theme “Ipunla ang Kagitingan sa Kabataan, Ihanda ang Beterano ng Kinabukasan”.
Among the various activities in the observance of the Araw ng Kagitingan and Philippine Veterans Week were; Sunrise and Wreath-laying Ceremony on April 5, 2015 at 6:00 in the morning at the Libingan ng mga Bayani, Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City; a Parade and Review in Honor of the Veterans at 9:00 in the morning on April 5 to be held at the Hunters ROTC Fiyeld also in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City; on April 7, a Tribute to All Filipino Heroes will be held at Filipino Heroes Memorial, Corregidor Island at 9:00 in the morning.
On April 9, 2015, Araw ng Kagitingan will be commemorated at Mount Samat National Shrine, Pilar, Bataan at around 9:00 in the morning with President Benigno S Aquino III, attending as the Guest of Honor and Speaker. A Wreathlaying Ceremony “Paggunita sa Capas” at Capas National Shrine, Capas, Tarlac will be held on April 10 at around 9:00 in the morning.
The culmination of the week long activities is on April 11, 2015 at 5:00 in the morning for the Sunset Ceremony at the Libingan ng mga Bayani, Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.
Executive Order No. 23, Series of 1987, declared April 9 of every year as a national holiday for the observance of Araw ng Kagitingan. While Proclamation No. 466, Series of 1989, designated the period of April 5 to 11 of every year as Philippine Veterans Week in order to promote, preserve and memorialize the principles, ideas and deeds of our war veterans as a means to enhance patriotism and love of our country, especially among the youth.
