SOUTHERN LEYTE, Philippines – The National Food Authority (NFA) is receiving thousands bags of rice in preparation for the lean rice harvests in the months of June until August for the provinces of Southern Leyte and Leyte, this year.

According to NFA Senior Staff Eliza Almacin, who is also the designated Information Officer, their office is facilitating for the unloading of 21,500 bags of rice from M/V Alfonso Wednesday.

She said the newly arrived bags of rice will compose among the buffer stock that the government needs to stockpile in preparation for the coming lean months of June until August, this year for the province of Southern Leyte and several municipalities in Leyte province.

Almacin also noted that their office is also procuring palay from the produce of local rice farmers to augment the buffer stock in the province, as well.

She said a procurement team has been dispatched to Hinunangan for the said procurement at P17.00 per kilogram of palay while additional incentives shall be offered for those whose rice are already dry and delivered to their respective buying stations.
