Public warning vs Sydney car dealer

NSW Fair Trading Commissioner Rod Stowe is urging the public not to deal with Hakan Karakaya also known as Harvey Karakaya who is trading as Sydney Auto Sales at 188 Parramatta Road, Auburn.

Hakan Karajaya does not hold a motor dealer license.

Sydney Auto Sales trading from 166 Parramatta Road Ashfield is a separate and unrelated  business that is not subject to this public warning.

NSW Fair Trading has obtained information that Mr Karakaya is dealing in the purchase and sale of motor vehicles and consignment sales while not holding a motor dealer license and is not keeping prescribed records or consignment trust accounts.

Mr Stowe said NSW Fair Trading today issued in the public interest a public warning under Section 86A of the Fair Trading Act of 1987.

Fair Trading has received nine complaints and two phone enquiries since 29 August 2013 where vehicles have been sold to Mr Karakaya.

A number of consumers have attempted to contact Mr Hakan Karakaya without success regarding money owed to them from either the sale of their motor vehicles or consignment sales.

Some consumers have complained that payments mad by cheque have been dishonoured.

Customers who believe they are owed money by Hakan Karakaya and who have not lodged a complaint with NSW Fair Trading are urged to contact NSW Fair Trading on 132 20 as a matter of urgency.

Fair Trading is continuing to investigate MrKarakaya’s conduct with the view to taking enforcement action.
