State Member for Penrith Mr Stuart Ayres who was recently appointed as Minister assisting Premier Barrie O’Farrell as Minister for Western Sydney has congratulated Western Sydney Schools on their strong showing in the HSC results releases Tuesday 18 December.
It should be recalled Western Sydney schools had been the object of sensational tabloid news stories about their student’s poor showings in previous HSC results.
Last Wednesday, Mr Ayres said that 27 of 110 students who came first in a subject attended schools in Western Sydney.
“This is a strong result for schools in Western Sydney and I congratulate all students who have competed their exams this year,” Mr Ayres said.
“These results showcased the calibre of Western Sydney schools and their students to the rest of the state.
“To claim the First in Course sot is a great honour for these students, and they, their teachers and their families should be very proud
“The HSC is world class credential and completing the HSC demonstrates a high level of achievements at an international level.
“Completing the HSC requires immense dedication from students, and supports both from teachers and parent.”
Mr Ayres also stressed that there are many career pathways available to finishing students other than the HSC.
“Irrespective of what mark you receive today , it is important to remember that there are many paths to success and the HSC is just one of them.” Mr Ayres said.
“Each year, exams take place in more than 750 locations and Presiding Officers oversee the conduct of examinations, including logistics of delivering around 14 million pages of question papers, and around 2 million booklets.”
