PH Embassy Appeals for PH Australian Community Donations to Typhoon Haiyan Victims

Philippine Ambassador to Australia Ms Belen Anota  has issued appeals to the Filipino-Australian community to extend their generosity to those affected by supertyphoon Yolanda (International name:  Haiyan), mainly in the Visayas.

 Philippine embassy reported that Yolanda was in the Philippine area of responsibility from 6 – 9 November 2013 bringing heavy rains and flooding to 455 municipalities and 49 cities in 41 provinces of Regions IV-A, IV-B, V, VI, VII, VIII, X, XI and CARAGA.

 Philipppine Embassy reported that according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council’s Situation Report No. 11 of 10 November 2013, a total of 2,055,630 families or about 9,497,847 persons are affected by the disaster. As of 7PM, 10 November 2013, 299 persons were reported dead, 45 injured and 28 are still missing.  The death toll is expected to rise.

Initial damage to agriculture and infrastructure was pegged at Php 138,552,546.55 million.
