PH indie “Transit” in 18th Busan International film fest

The independent film Transit by first-time director Hannah Espia has emerged as a front-runner at the 18th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF).

The film has made it into the final judging in the New Currents competition in one of Asia’s premier film festival, which will now compete against 11 countries whose films reflected the realities of Asia.

The story of Transit evolves around the lives of five migrant families and their struggles in Israel to stay together amidst a strict law where it forbids foreign workers from marrying or having children while on contract in the country.

According to director Espia, the film showed the lives of children born in foreign lands, and their struggles with identity.

Last month, Transit was chosen as the Philippines’ entry for the Academy Awards in 2014, after it won the major prize in the Cinemalaya independent film festival in August.
