One bronze has been bagged by the Philippine dragon boat team on the last day of the 11th World Dragon Boat Championships in Szeged, Hungary last Sunday, making its total medal haul to two silvers and two bronzes in the weeklong event.
Their two silver medals came from the Standard Boat Premier Mixed 500m and the Small Boat Premier Women 200m events.
The Filipino paddlers timed 2 minutes and 29.890 seconds to settle for third place in the Small Boat Premier Women 500-meter affair behind gold medalist and Southeast Asian rival Thailand (2:24.200) and Taiwan (2:29.620).
The team could have added one more medal but fell short in the Standard Boat Premier Open 500m by placing fifth in 1:57.630.
China won the even in 1:53.840, followed by Germany (1:54.270), Canada (1:55.910) and the United States (1:56.950).
However, the PH team’s total performance was a far cry from their remarkable five-gold, two-silver haul in the prior edition held in Tampa Bay, Florida two years ago.
