Once referred to as “Kilabot ng Kolehiyala”, Filipino-Canadian quintessential entertainer Ariel Rivera should be most likely be called ambassador of songs to the expatriates.
After securing his place in the Philippine music industry with many hit songs, Ariel went on to continue his career in TV, movies and even the musical stage. His multi-talented persona had lent a calming influence to many music lovers, especially to those who long for Pinoy music at best
One of the lesser known exponent of Original Pilipino Music or OPM, Ariel nevertheless built an avid following who can still remember his original recordings “Minsan Lang Kitang Ibigin”, “Sana Kahit Minsan, “, “Sa Aking Puso “, and “Sana Ngayong Pasko .”
Writing in Philippine Star, Ms Leah Salterio said, ”Fortunately Ariel was able to build a name for himself a s actor. To date he has done memorable movies with some of the industry’s leading actresses. The line-up includes Vilma Santos (Bata, Bata, Paano ka Ginawa), Lorna Tolentino (May Nagmamahal Sa Iyo) , Sharon Cuneta (Ikaw) and even Lea Salonga with whom Ariel co-starred in his fi[m debut (Bakit Labis Kitang Mahal, with Aga Muhlach).”
“Ariel also was able to invade TV, too. Up to this day, he remains visible on TV. When he’s not busy with singing engagements, he gives way to acting After appearing in a number of fantasy series on GMA, he returned to ABS-CBN and started headlining drama series,” Salterio added.
But what Ariel will showcase on his visit to Sydney this September is his music including his singing prowess, his versatility and his ability to entertain onstage. Not many have been able to hone their own music as Ariel did. He has already broadened his gifts beyond his music and entertainment calling.
Sydneysiders can aptly have a journey back to Ariel’s days as the endearing troubadour as he share his life, love and dreams through songs on “Ariel Rivera Live in Sydney” on Saturday 28 September 2013 at Tivoli Showroom of Rooty Hill RSL in Rooty Hill. Also featured in the show is our very own Sydney-bred Chad Peralta who has just come back to Sydney after a number of years building his singing career in Manila
The show is presented by Cheers Entertainment which has started a string of successful shows recently. Tickets are available from Jas My Waffle Rooty Hill, Bhajune Mt Druitt, Bhajune Parramatta, and Pinoy Tiketek.
It would be a pity if baby boomers especially many of those former Manila kolehiyalas who have been endeared to them as their favourite Kilabot idol may miss out on the opportunity.
Ariel’s singing ambassador’s role has led him to see places and sang for many Filipino expatriates including, among others, in New York , USA (2011), Virgin Beach and San Francisco, USA (2000), Japan (2000), Los Angeles USA (1999) and Australia (1996).
