Rising Filipino Tennis Hopeful in Australia for Tournaments

Rising young Filipino tennis campaigner Jeson Patrombon, 19, from Iligan City, Philippines is in Australia for possible berths in the Australian ITF circuits, eyeing for a start of a series of matches in Canberra .

Jeson who is toning his onslaught of the ITF tournaments in Australia in Blacktown, was introduced to the community by community leaders Neil  Galang,  Jojo Laquian and Bob Alipalo during a public meeting by Australian Sports Minister Kate Lundy with  Filipino community organisations at the Traders Club in  Mt. Druitt.  Ms Kate  Lundy  who also serves as Deputy Minister on Multicultural Affairs was accompanied to the meeting  by Federal Member for Chifley Mr  Ed Husic.

Mr Galang said that with Filipino community’s support,  tennis player Patrombon has he good chances of achieving good results in local ITF tournaments.   Patrombon is being hosted in Sydney  by North Shore Filipino Association  (NSFA)  official Mr Bob Alipalo.

Jeson started his preparation third week of March with night practice matches at Blacktown Tennis Club.

Mr. Patrombon’s trip to Australia should be a timely birthday present (he was born 27 March). He started playing at age 7 and was coached by Noel Padilla in the Philippines.  He has the current singles ranking of 1255th in the world and has achieved his highest ranking of 869th in October last year.

Patrombon also plays double and  his current ATP doubles ranking is 1578.

Patrombon has an impressive junior record, having made it to the top 15 in the world in International Tennis Federation  (ITF) junior world rankings. He reached the junior quarterfinals of last year’s Australian Open, but had adverse results in Wimbledon.

Highlights of his junior tennis career follow:  Top 10 junior player in the world, quarterfinals in singles in Grand Slam event, four singles ITF finals, champion in the China Open singles, qualified in the 1st orld Youth Olympia, qualified in Grand Slams events ( Wimbledon,  Australian Open,  U.S. Open and French Open).
