Protests vs Trump mark Fil-Am war anniversary

4
MANILA, Philippines – On the anniversary of the Filipino-American War, Bayan reiterates its continuing opposition to US intervention. We also express our solidarity with the struggle of the American people against Trump, fascism, racism and imperialism. We extended are warm friendship to the hundreds of thousands protesting across the US against deportations and other anti-immigrant policies.
According to BAYAN, what the Trump regime fails to realize is that the wave of migrations and the phenomenon of refugees was brought about in the first place by US wars of aggression and intervention. US destabilization of entire regions has caused a massive refugee crisis which the US now refuses to take responsibility for.
The Philippines, being a former colony that was brutally invaded and occupied by the US, knows all too well the consequence of US wars. Ours has been a history of resistance to colonial and neocolonial rule, economic impositions, US bases and human rights violations. Our underdevelopment has been caused by US colonial and neocolonial rule.
BAYAN asks the Duterte government to stop the implementation of the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement which paves the way for a second US military occupation. We can for the end to US military exercises. We seek a peaceful resolution, sans US intervention, to disputes in the West Philippine Sea.
Furthermore, they call for an end to US intervention in PH domestic affairs. The US-influenced Armed Forces of the Philippines remains a major stumbling block in the achievement of just peace with the revolutionary NDFP, as the former insists on carrying out US-inspired counter-insurgency operations and insists on US military presence in the Philippines via the EDCA and VFA.
