NCR employment rate reached 91.5 % in January 2017

QUEZON CITY, Philippines – Employment rate In the National Capital Region (NCR) reached 91.5% according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
Nationwide, PSA data showed that employment rate in the first month of the year reached an estimate of 93.4%.
Meanwhile. the labor force population in January 2017 is at 69.4 million which consists of employed and unemployed 15 years old and over. The labor force participation rate (LFPR) in the same period was estimated at 60.7%.
Workers in the services sector made up the 57.1% of the total employed in January 2017. The largest percentage (35.2%) of workers in this sector are those engaged in wholesale and retail trade or in repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles.
On the other hand, workers in the agriculture sector made up the 25.5% of the total employed in the same period. Meanwhile, the workers in the industry sector made up the 17.4% where in workers in the manufacturing subsector made up the 48% while construction subsector made up the 47%.
In the same period, the wage and salary workers made up 62.8% of the total employed, with those working in private establishments continuing to account for the largest share. They made up 49.1% of the total employed in January 2017. The second largest class of workers were the self-employed making up 27.2% while unpaid family workers accounted for 6.3% of the total employed.
The unemployment rate in January 2017 was estimated at 6.6%. Among the unemployed persons in January 2017, 69.6% were males. Of the total unemployed, the age group 15 to 24 years comprised 44.1%, while the age group 25 to 34, 29.6%. By educational attainment, 16.5% of the unemployed were college graduates, 14.6% were college undergraduates, and 31.1% were high school graduates.
