BSP announces 1-Piso ASEAN commemorative coin now in circulation

The commemorative coin was officially unveiled by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte and BSP Governor Amando M. Tetangco, Jr. during the launch of the Philippines’ ASEAN 2017 Chairmanship on January 15, 2017 in Davao City.
The issuance of the ASEAN commemorative coin aims to promote greater public awareness and interest on the Philippines’ ASEAN Chairmanship in 2017 and ASEAN cooperation.
According to BSP, the commemorative coin is a legal tender.
The front of the coin features the elements of ASEAN 50 Philippines 2017 logo with the theme, “Partnering for Change, Engaging the World.” Other markings include, 10 Stars which represents the ASEAN Members States, the Member States in micro-text, Sun and Dove of Peace, and the BSP Mink Mark in Baybayin.
Meanwhile, the back of the coin features the monument of Jose Rizal with markings such as the BSP Seal, “ASEAN 2017,” “REPUBLIKA NG PILIPINAS,” Denomination 1-Piso, and the List of ASEAN member States.
