QUEZON CITY, Philippines – Around 200 families living in hazardous seaside areas in three barangays in Manay, Davao Oriental received last week their Certificates of Occupancy to their new homes built through the Modified Shelter Assistance Program (MSAP) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
Davao Oriental Governor Nelson L. Dayanghirang led the distribution of certificates. He was joined by Manay Councilor Jon Marco M. Dayanghirang and DSWD- Field Office-XI Director Mercedita P. Jabagat.
MSAP is one of the shelter assistance projects of the DSWD in partnership with local government units to provide safe permanent shelters to families living in danger-prone areas.
Aside from Davao Oriental, the DSWD has funded this year some 1,860 housing units under MSAP for victims of Typhoons Mario, Lando, Nona and Yolanda, and internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao.
“DSWD will continue to help our fellow Filipinos affected by discord and those who lost their houses due to calamities by providing structurally strong shelter units that can withstand disasters and other natural hazards,” assured DSWD Secretary Judy M. Taguiwalo.
