Oct. 21- Last night’s winner of the Channel 7 talent show X Factor Ms Marlisa Punzalan together with her mum has been invited to attend the Filipino Community Council of Australia (FILCCA) National Conference Gala Night on Saturday night October 25th at the Novotel Hotel in Parramatta, NSW.Some community leaders said she might even receive the FILCCA Filipino-Australian of the Year Award as she was already nominated for the awards even before last night’s release of X Factor winners’ results.
Known as FILCCA Achievers Awards, the citations are for Filipino-Australian of the Year, the Filipino Australian Achiever of the Year, the Youth Achievement Award, and the Outstanding Community Organisation.
FILCCA is the Australia wide umbrella organisation of peak community bodies from all Australian states. These affiliates peak bodies are the Philippine Community Council of NSW (PCC-NSW), the Filipino Community Council of FCCV, )Filipino Community Council of Queensland (FCCQ), the Filipino Community Council of ACT (FCCACT), the Filipino Settlement Coordinating Council of South Australia (FSCCAS), the Filipino WA), and the LUZVIMIN Community Council of Tasmania.
South Australian inventor and entrepreneur Mr Rudy Garcia was the Filipino Australian of the Year in 2012. Prominent New South Wales NRL rugby league player Mr Craig Wing was another one time a winner of the FILCCA Filipino Australian of the Year award.
FILCCA National Conference is a biennial gathering of Filipino community leaders nominated by the state community councils to revisit and redefine FILCCA’s Australia wide advocacies for the following two years and at the same time electing its officials for the same period.
The FILCCA Gala Night will be held at the Lennox Hall of the Novotel Hotel in Parramatta this coming Saturday night 25 October.
