Popular exponent of Filipino composed folk music in the 70s Florante is coming to Sydney to perform in two music concerts in October 2013.
Florante de Leon who’d been on first name basis throughout his career popularised the song Ako’y Pinoy” which had been called subsequently the “nationalist anthem” of overseas Filipins workers.
The first concert will be at Western Suburbs League Club in Leumeah, NSW on Friday October 4th. The second will be on Saturday October 5th at Tivoli Showroom of Rooty Hill RSL Club, 55 Sheerbroke, Street, Rooty Hill.
Bursting into Manila music scene in the 70s, Florante rode the wave of Filipino of enlightenment and self-awareness that defied the decade, inspiring fans with simple , folksy melodies that carried patriotic sentiments.
Florante returns to Sydney after more than a decade, with the two special concerts simply titled “Florante” . This is a chance for Florante to renew ties with his loyal fans as well as meet with new fans from younger generations
Among the quintessential Florante compositions are “Handog” (Gift), “Abakada” (Alphabet), Digmaan (War), and “Pinay” (Filipina). Florante will be expected to sing hi most recent compositions which are should likewise amplify the themes of social consciousness with lines about his iish huour.
A special feature of the concert will be local performer Elvix Pinoy, the latest of Western Sydney Entertainment stable of Filipino-Australian talents, He is an impersonator from the Philippines. He was discovered by concert promoter Mr Bong David who is behind Western Sydney Entertainment.
This will be the first time that Western Sydney Filipinos will be treated to Elvix Pinoy’s unique talents.
