Renovation of Philippine’s oldest airport completed before 2016

Reformation plans of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1, the country’s oldest airport terminal is set to be finished before President Benigno Aquino III’s term expires in 2016.

According to Presidential Communication Operations Office Secretary Sonny Coloma, Aquino has already spoken to Transportation Secretary Jun Abaya about the speedy renovation of NAIA Terminal 1.

As mentioned by Coloma, the President has already commended his Cabinet to accelerate reforms and accomplish major infrastructure projects. He also said that he can see the president’s perseverance in fulfilling this major project.

In 2011, the government awarded the contract of rehabilitation program to Leandro V. Locsin and Associates, which originally designed NAIA Terminal 1.

NAIA is indeed getting a much-needed rehabilitation. Renowned Filipino interior designer Kenneth Cobonpue and architectural firm Leandro V. Locsin and Associates are gradually leading the reformation of “the world’s worst airport.”

The Cobonpue Group has proposed their services pro bono and is aiming for the urgent success of the major infrastructures.
