Orange and yellow battle continues in Manila, as campaigning for local posts started for the May 2013 Elections.
Rival parties United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) and Liberal Party (LP) showed their support for their candidates for the mayoral seat in Manila.
Under UNA is former president Joseph Estrada, who also is one of the “big three” of the orange clad party of Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile and Vice President Jejomar Binay.
While the yellow Team PNoy, supports incumbent Mayor Alfredo Lim, who has personal ties with President Benigno Aquino III. The former played a huge role during the EDSA People Power Revolution 1, which put Aquino’s mother, the late Corazon Aquino in power.
The two rival candidates dropped words saying that they will refrain from their verbal attacks but seem to continue the exchange with their public discourse in their recent proclamation rallies.
Estrada criticized the leadership of Lim, while Lim answers back as he points out Estrada’s previous plunder case.
Estrada together with his running mate incumbent Manila Vice Mayor Isko Moreno said in their speeches in UNA’s Easter Sunday proclamation rally, that they haven’t seen progress in the city under Lim’s leadership as it lags behind other cities in the nation’s capital like Makati and Taguig.
Lim on the other hand calls Estrada as a liar and drunk, and proudly cited his accomplishments on the city’s development.
The one-on-one battle of the two is said to be the hottest rivalry in the country, but still Manila’s voters are the ones to decide and have a month left to assess the candidates’ platforms and backgrounds.
Meanwhile, as local campaign heats up, the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) continued reminding candidates to follow the commission’s policies in campaigning.
COMELEC recently launched an educational video featuring characters named “Boy Bawal” and “Tina Tama” showing candidates and voters proper, and legal techniques in running an election campaign.
The videos are part of the COMELEC’s initiative for ordinary citizen’s participation in reporting potential campaign violations.
