By Ed Escultura – IN THE last couple of months Digong made contradictory statements about BBM. In July last year, he criticized BBM for drug use and failing to return to government (Digong) what his father took for himself during his 15-year martial law regime. He even did not pardon BBM for the crimes of moral turpitude and lying to the Commission on Elections.
These were said in the context of two months ago when Bong Go was willing to run for president. But he saw the writing on the wall and quit. Now, BBM is Digong’s last chance to protect him from ICC and something shows already: Digong allowed the Commission on Elections to reject the petition to cancel BBM’s Certificate of Candidacy despite the crimes he has committed that would disqualify him for running for president.
The fight is between Leni and BBM. BBM and Duterte support Isko Moreno to secure the votes of Manileño. But the spontaneous response of the Manileños to Leni’s candidacy tells us something else. Voluntarism in support of Leni is seen everywhere in the country. In contrast, BBM pays P1,200 per head to join his rally and $1,400 per car to join his caravan. Thus, it is going to be a battle between the people on Leni’s side, and money and Smartmatic machines on BBM’s side.
The Duterte’s and Marcoses have always been close friends. It was Digong who made it possible to bury BBM’s father wax replica in Libingan ng mga Bayani despite opposition from the public. With BBM as administrator of the Marcos’ assets, the Marcoses donated a large sum of money for the election of Digong in 2016.
Where is Manny in all of these? He is, objectively, in the anti-BBM camp because he will slice a big chunk of the BBM-Duterte votes. 1Sambayan is on the right track in its preparation for the May 9, 2022 elections and what may happen thereafter
