Message by NSW Multicultural Minister Dr Geoff Lee

The sails of the iconic Sydney Opera House have been lit up in red to mark the upcoming Lunar New Year.
Minister for Multiculturalism Geoff Lee welcomed the upcoming Year of the Ox.
“Lunar New Year is such a special time of year for our many Asian communities in NSW marking new beginnings, good fortune and precious time devoted to family and friends,” Mr Lee said.
“Lunar New Year will again be different this year and we ask all communities to follow the latest COVID-19 restrictions and the health advice while they celebrate.
“I’m proud of how our communities have continued to adapt and find new ways to celebrate cultural festivals and traditions while keeping our State safe.”
Lunar New Year is an inclusive and integral part of NSW culture and celebrated across many East Asian and South Asian communities.
“The Ox is said to be steadfast, strong and reliable and we can all draw on these qualities as we work to stay safe during these unprecedented times,” Mr Lee said.
“The NSW Government wishes all communities celebrating Lunar New Year a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year
