Community leader Mr. Ruben Amores of Berala, NSW who presided in the formation of Kapitbahayan Coop Ltd in 1995 was elected back as the housing coop’s president and chairman of the Board of Directors during the housing coop’s AGM and Elections in Western Sydney. The coop tenant-members of the Board of Directors are also holds operating positions as Office Bearers voluntarily.
Elected with Ruben are: Flor Barton, Treasurer; Rafael Amarille, Property Manager; Len Tolentino, Secretary; Aaliyah Yco, Tenancy Officer and Delia Purisima, Internal Auditor.
Ruben was president in most of the life of the multi-awarded housing coop except for some years when he requested to take a leave. He won back the position from incumbent Pablo Lee who was defeated together with all the other previous Board Members in a hotly contested secret balloting.
According to Mr Amores, the new Board of Directors will focus on attending to the many repair and maintenance issues of the 23 units managed by the coop and to strengthen membership participation and its involvement to the larger and mainstream community.
KCL is founding member of Alliance of Philippine Community Organisations (APCO) and the Auburn Small Communities Network (ASCON) and is also actively involved with the Cumberland Council and Dooleys Lidcombe Catholic Club, the Sydney Alliance and Western Sydney Community Forum. It is a recipient of the Philippine Presidential Award in 2017 and the Global Bayani Award of SBS-CBN in 2012 and many other housing and community awards in Australia.
