Leumeah resident and long-time Philippine community leader Dr Jimmy Lopez has received an award as part of the Premier’s Volunteer Recognition Program for his volunteer work in the Campbelltown community.
As an outstanding local volunteer for many years, Jimmy has generously given his time to make a difference in people’s lives and the local environment.
Dr Lopez was presented with a certificate by Campbelltown MP Greg Warren as part of the Premier’s Volunteer Recognition Program, honouring his extensive record of community involvement.
The Premier’s Volunteer Recognition Program celebrates volunteering and acknowledges the desire to take part in community life across all ages.
Dr Lopez has an outstanding record of volunteering in our local community having previously been a President of the Sto Nino Association of Macarthur, and numerous positions on the Philippine Communities Council of New South Wales (PCC-NSW). Jimmy Lopez also represented PCC-NSW to the Australia-wide organisation Filipino Communities Coybcil (FILCCA) over a period of six years. He was also former president of PCC-NSW.
Dr Lopez is also the Founding President of NARRA Co-op Ltd, Plaza Filipino Inc, Global Ilocanos Australia Inc, TimekIti La Union Association Inc, Saint Louis University Alumni Association of Australia, Baguio Colleges Foundation Alumni Association, Concerned Citizens for Over 50s, past President of Ilocano Association of Australia Inc, Sto Nino Association of MacArthur, BNP Campbelltown Chapter, Coordinator of Macquarie Fields Prayer Group, Coordinator of the Wattle Grove Prayer Group, and President of Blessed Pedro Calungsod Inc.
In 2013 the Sedgwick Housing Co-operative Ltd, which Dr Lopez is also the President of, raised $9,000 for victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.
Dr Lopez is not resting on his laurels and continues to be actively involved in many local organisations. He is currently the President of Sedgwick Housing Co-operative Ltd, having held that position for the past 6 years and continues to serve as an advisor on the board of the Alliance of Philippine Community Organizations and many more local organisations.
NSW Member for Campbelltown MP Greg Warren said, “Jimmy has done so much for his local community through the Sedgwick Housing Co-Operative and the various other groups he has been involved in, and everyone that knows him can’t rate him highly enough.”
