The vice presidential bid of Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. received another big boost today after political leaders of Davao Region declared their support to his candidacy.
On the third day of his Unity Caravan in Mindanao, Marcos got the endorsement of the top political leaders of Davao del Norte and Davao Del Sur which included former Davao Del Norte Rep. Antonio “Tony Boy” Floirendo, Davao Del Norte Rep. Anton Lagdameo, PBA partylist official Jericho “Koko” Nograles, Panabo City Mayor James Gamao, among others.
Floirendo, who attended the event for the senator at the Panabo Multi-purpose Tourism, Cultural and Sports Center in Panabo City said the whole of Davao is supporting the candidacy of Marcos because of his political platforms and his track record in government service.
“Madami nang napatunayan si Senator Bongbong mula pa kanyang termino sa Ilocos Norte ng ilang taon naging maunlad ito. Tapos bilang congressman at senador na hindi matatawaran ang naging ambag nya sa paglikha ng batas at sa kanyang pinakitang tapang at independence sa senado. Sya ang karapat-dapat na vice president ng ating bansa,” Floirendo told the large crowd.
Thousands of people, mostly showing ALDUB streamers, lined the streets in Davao City for Marcos’ motorcade to show their support to the senator. ALDUB is short for Alyansang (Rody) Duterte-Bongbong.
Marcos, for his part, thanked the people of Davao for their warm welcome and show of support to his campaign.
“Ako po ay labis na nagpapasalamat sa inyong pinakitang pagsuporta sa akin. Ito po ang nagbibigay sa akin ng inspirasyon at lakas upang mas lalo pang pagbutihin ang aking kampanya na pag-isahin tayong lahat dahil uunlad lamang ulit ang ating bansa kung tayo ay magkakaisa sa pagtulong sa kapwa at sa bansa,” Marcos said.
The senator earlier consolidated the support of the predominantly Ilocano-speaking towns and cities in North Cotabato with the mayor of Makilala, Rudy Caoagdan, a member of the ruling Liberal Party, crossing party lines to support his vice presidential bid.
Marcos went around several towns and cities in North Cotabato, particularly in Makilala, Kidapawan, Matalam, Kabacan and Midsayap—areas where Ilocano migrants settled—and received warm welcome by local officials and residents, especially in Kabacan town where around 65 % of residents were of Ilocano descent.
In giving a rousing welcome to Marcos in his visit to his town, Caoagdan, whose parents were Ilocanos, said he decided not to toe party lines because of his belief in the senator’s platform and his Ilocano heritage.
“My being an LP member is one thing; my support for Marcos is another because after all my parents are from Ilocos region: my mother is from Laoag City, my father is from Pangasinan. There is no reason why we won’t support a fellow Ilocano,” Caoagdan said.
