MANILA, Philippines – A total of 225 families living in Baseco Compound, Manila stand to benefit from a housing assistance from the city and Department of the Interior and Local Government.
Manila Mayor Joseph Ejercito Estrada received the check amounting to P36 million from DILG-NCR OIC-regional director Maria Lourdes L. Agustin at the former’s office in Manila City Hall, Monday.
The housing assistance resulted from a Memorandum of Agreement signed between Mayor Estrada and former DILG Secretary Mar Roxas on 18 December 2014 for a micro-medium-rise building proposed by the Kabalikat sa Kaunlaran Baseco, Inc., a people’s organization working out for housing tenure of informal settler families in Baseco.
Support to people’s plan is a component of DILG’s program Assistance to Informal Settler Families, which intends to reduce disaster vulnerability and displacement of urban poor communities.
Diocelio B. Candano, a board member of the people’s organization, expressed hope that informal settlers in the entire Baseco compound will someday have decent, safe and affordable homes through constant collaboration with the City Government and concerned National Government Agencies.
The housing site will be constructed at Dubai Site, BASECO Compound, Brgy. 649, Zone 68, Port Area, Manila.
