More livelihood opportunities open to Pantawid beneficiaries

ILOILO CITY, Philipines – More household beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino program in Western Visayas are interested to engage in livelihood activities to be able to sustain their income.
Mary Ann Masculino, Regional Project Coordinator on Sustainable Livelihood Program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development 6 said they have received forty-seven proposals on various livelihood undertakings from PantawidPamilya beneficiaries under the Enterprise Capital Assistance of the SLP, as of July this year.
The 47 project proposals amounting to P35,226,040.00 will stand to benefit around 3, 974 Pantawid Pamilya beneficiaries from the four provinces of the region such as Antique, Capiz, Iloilo and Negros Occidental.
Of the total number of project proposals, Capiz has submitted the most number with 31, Iloilo with 7, Negros Occidental, 5 and Antique, 4.
Masculino said the provision of the capital assistance for the social protection programs and services for beneficiaries of the department including PantawidPamilya is one of the focus of the microenterprise development track of the SLP during the recent PantawidPamilya Regional Advisory Committee meeting.
The other track of the SLP is the Employment Facilitation that provides assistance such as skills training leading towards employment, pre-employment assistance fund and job referrals to program’s participants.
As shown in the data presented by Masculino during the meeting, 4Ps beneficiaries are among the priority of the SLP in the region targeting 67,846 of them from the 110 covered municipalities to date.
Also, Masculino said through SLP around 993 Pantawid Pamilya beneficiaries were already provided with Vocational Skills Training; 670 were provided with physical assets; 694 with capital assistance; 596 were referred for employment under the Trabahong Lansangan of the Department of Public Works and Highways and private companies; and 452 were provided temporary employment through Cash for Building Livelihood Assets.
DSWD has earmarked P1.4 billion for the implementation of the SLP in the region.
