IBO Super Featherweight Champ Asis Named Sports Star

asis (250x141)BY BRENDON SMITH   –  IBO SUPER FEATHERWEIGHT WORLD CHAMPION JACK ASIS has been recognised for his World title victory named Sports Darling Downs Sports star for the month of April.

In the month of April Asis fulfilled a fairytale dream – defeating the previously undefeated Kye Mackenzie to claim the IBO strap.

Today in front of a crowd of over 120 people at Sports Darling Downs quarterly Breakfast Asis received his prize.

In his trademark style, Jack flashed his big smile and told the crowd: “I’m sorry, I’m very shy I don’t really like talk I like fight – but thank you everyone for supporting me I very much appreciate.””Jack is a great local sporting success story,”

Sports Darling Downs President Mick Smith said. “Sports Darling Downs is all about supporting local athletes – it was great to help some one like Jack Asis.

“We’ve all read about the struggles he faced in life to achieve his goals.”It’s refreshing to see someone like Jack who is very humble,shy and extremely polite.”When you listen to him talk you can see how much he genuinely loves Toowoomba,” Smith said.

It’s an award extremely special to the likable Filipino who now calls Toowoomba home. “I would like to thank Mr Smith and everyone at Sports Darling Downs for my award,” Asis said.

“I’m very lucky to be a part of this town because so many people support me. “This award is very special to me.

“I’m honoured to receive it. “It was a very proud moment for me.

“Thanks to all my team without them I wouldn’t be here receiving this award. “Especially my manager Sir Brendon who has done so much for me. “He has helped me realise my dream.” Asis said.

As the April monthly winner Jack goes into the running to be named the Sports Darling Downs sports star of the year for 2015. ” I’m already happy with what I got mate,” Asis said with a beaming smile.

“If I win the big award, that would be nice but it’s just nice to be nominated. “Good luck to all of the other athletes who won awards this morning.

“I hope they all achieve their dreams like I did. “I say to them – never give up, never lose hope and always try your best,” Asis said.

Jack Asis is currently back in training at Smithy’s TGW Gym, his manager Brendon Smith is in negotiations for his next bout with interest both in Australia and abroad.
